Public Hearing Notice
🚍October 7th Changes and One Month Updates🚍
Hill Country Transit District is pleased to announce the first month of the new Urban Microtransit Service is complete! After reviewing the the last 30 days The HOP is happy to announce the new improvements to the overall design of the services beginning on Monday October 7th.We would also like to share with you some of the stats from the first month! The HOP transported 16,086 riders during September with an On Time Performance Average of 84% and a 9min 43sec Median Wait Time.
In order to keep those numbers climbing The HOP is making some changes to better improve our rider's experience. The following changes will make the service easier to use and more convenient for you: The Rider!
🚍Regional Commuter Redesign:
In order to make scheduling your long distance trips easier, we have changed the Regional Commuter to have Two Stops in Killeen and One Stop in Harker Heights. This change reduces confusion and increases predictability for the rider to know when and where the bus will stop. Times have changed for all stops on the route so click the link for more information.
🏙️Killeen Zone Updates:
Prior to October 7th, Killeen was divided into Two Service Zones which led to rider's needing to transfer onto the Regional Commuter if they were crossing town. Starting Monday October 7th this will no longer be needed as Killeen will be one single Service Zone, just like every other city in the region.
💺Rider Types & Discounts:
When booking a trip select "Adult" for Base Fare, "Reduced" for a Discounted Fare, or "Infant" for Free Fare for children under 2 years. You will then be prompted to select a discount type. If you are not using a discount you can click Confirm without making a selection. If you are using a discount type please confirm with your driver when you board the bus, this is very important to ensure you receive your discounted trip.
🎟️💳Payment Methods & Uber Trips:
To make selecting the correct service easier we have simplified each service's name.
Now, if you are needing to use the Regional Commuter or would like to pay using: Cash, a Paper Pass, or an e-Ticket in the app select the city's Microtransit service. For example "🎟️Microtransit Killeen".
If you would like the option to have an Uber during busy hours or to pay with your Wallet Balance or Card or an e-Ticket then select the city's Microtransit Digital Payment Only service. For example "💳Microtransit Temple - Digital Payment Only".
**As a reminder: Uber trips are at no additional cost to the rider and are a courtesy provided by The HOP.
Hill Country Transit District is excited to bring its riders these new changes and look forward to improving the services as the days continue! We here at The HOP appreciate every rider's cooperation during these days of transitioning into a better, more efficient system for everyone.
Need Help?
If you are having issues booking your trip in the app, please call 254-933-3700 for assistance during Hill Country Transit District operational hours.
Service Outage
We apologize for the inconvenience, but our app is currently experiencing technical difficulties as is our dispatcher software. We are in communication with the software vendor now to remedy this situation and have our system back up and running as soon as possible.Clarification on Price of Uber Trips Provided by The HOP
There seems to be confusion on the matter of trips contracted by The HOP to be carried out by Uber: Please be advised that the cost of these trips is the same for the passenger regardless of if transportation was handled by The HOP or an Uber vehicle. The base fare remains $2, or $1 if the passenger qualifies for discounted fare regardless of which transportation service is used by The HOP. As such, it is highly recommended that when shown the fleet agreement for Uber Trips that the passenger accepts the agreement so that you can have access to quick and efficient service when needed. Again, passengers only need to pay $2 (or $1 if discounted) to ride with any trip booked through the app.Improved Efficiency in Harker Heights Service
In order to provide short wait times and improve the efficiency for the city of Harker Heights, The HOP has made the following changes. Beginning Monday September 16, 2024 trips traveling to or from Harker Heights will require the use of the Regional Commuter. The below Killeen locations can be scheduled for drop off, however, when returning to Harker Heights riders will transfer to the Regional Commuter.Killeen Locations for Harker Heights Drop Off:
-Killeen Lowes Blvd Shopping Plaza
-Killeen Trimmier HEB
-Killeen Lions Club Park
-Killeen Mall
-Killeen Homedepot Shopping Plaza
-Killeen Scott and White Drive Clinics
-Killeen Rosewood Living Facility
Trips traveling to the below Harker Heights locations from Killeen can continue to take direct trips without the need of the Regional Commuter.
-Harker Heights Seton Hospital
-Harker Heights Fresenius Dialysis
As the days continue, Hill Country Transit District aims to improve the service for all riders and appreciates the public's assistance during this time of transition.

New Route Service - Flex Route Silver Line
Beginning March 1st, The HOP will introduce a new type of route for the Killeen Service area. Currently, The HOP provides Fixed Route Service (FRS) and Special Transit Service (STS). Fixed-Route Service operates by providing service along a stationary route picking up at predetermined locations. Special Transit Service picks up passengers that qualify under ADA regulations from any place within ¾ mile from a Fixed-Route to any destination that is also within ¾ mile from a Fixed-Route. The new service, called a Flex Route, is a blend of the two concepts. Flex Routes are designed to complement Fixed-Route Service by providing transportation within predetermined zones and connecting passengers to the rest of the system. A Flex Route operates at specific points along a fixed route, but between those stops, the route can also be deviated to pick up passengers at any site that is within ½ mile of the route. The passengers may schedule this pickup between 24 and 48 hours in advance and as long as there is space available. Passengers will be scheduled on a first-come/first-serve basis. It is essentially an on-demand service with pre-determined stops, and anyone can ride at these predetermined spots without a reservation. A Flex Route operates within a certain targeted “zone” which is defined primarily as a demand-response service. This new route, referred to as the Silver Line (RT-550), will operate from 8:00 am to 10:00 am and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. As shown in the accompanying map, the Silver Line (RT-550) will operate from a core route that runs from the Killeen Community Center (previously known as the Gilmore Center) in the north, to the Walmart on US-190, down to Lions Club Park in the south on Stan Schlueter Loop. It will then go back to Walmart before starting the cycle again at the Killeen Community Center. The Silver Line will operate on a curb-to-curb basis and at three bus stops: the Killeen Community Center, Lions Club Park, and Walmart. There will be no waiting at route deviations, similar to how a school bus operates when picking up passengers. Trips can be scheduled by calling the scheduling department of The HOP at (254) 933-3700 ext. 5009
